Minutes for the meeting of October 1, 2002

3:27pm Members arrive

3:29pm VP Ginny arrives

3:30pm Pre-meeting banter over seating positions
Ginny officially calls meeting to order

3:32pm Late members arrive and complain about lack of emails notifying them of meeting

3:35pm Everyone makes fun of President Dave in his absence

3:36pm Dr. Miller walks by, inquires about a student coup

3:37pm "Let the meeting begin." Brief introductions, discussion of new officers

3:38pm Joe demands a recount of the elections

3:39pm Angela discussed new bank account with the Physics & Astronomy main office

3:41pm Everyone pays their dues ($15)

3:43pm Discussion of the Messier `10K' this weekend, observing as many Messier objects as possible at HLCO

3:45pm Go / no-go email by Friday at noon for the M10K
Discussion of BBQ and camping for the event

3:47pm Native americans won't let us blow up the moon!

3:48pm Solar observing next week - Mon. 10/7 at 2:30pm in Woodruff Park

3:49pm Discussion of last month's aborted night observing - blame is placed on Dave

3:50pm Ginny calls Dave an idiot and apologizes to Tatiana

3:51pm Discussion of go / no-go emails for nighttime observing

3:53pm Nighttime observing will be Mon. 10/14 @ 7:45pm in 516 Kell, unless there is a conflict with a lab class

3:55pm Other upcoming club events - Apollo 13 at the IMAX at Mall of Georgia. Tenatively scheduled viewing for 10/10 at 9pm

3:59pm Talk at Bradley Observatory in Decatur on 10/8 about Meteors and Meteorites
Talk on 12/13 about Star Formation in the Milky Way

4:00pm `Contact' movie review on campus, tenatively scheduled for 10/25 at 4pm

4:03pm Leonid meteor shower on 11/17, will be the STORM OF THE CENTURY!!! except for the full moon. Possible event on 11/16 for observing the meteors.

4:05pm RSVP for the Messier 10K by Friday at 2pm, please

4:06pm Unscheduled events - shuttle launch, inviting a guest speaker (astronaut, famous astronomer, etc), Atlanta Astronomy Club meeting

4:08pm Fundraising ideas for shuttle launch are discussed - merchandise sales, bake sale, telescope workshop

4:15pm Tatiana complains about the lack of an astronomy undergrad program

4:18pm More discussion of fundraising ideas, such as exploiting fellow grad students

4:22pm Idea for Astronomy (Club) Day sometime this fall for raising cash.

4:23pm Idea for building scale model of solar system in Atlanta, using the capitol dome as the Sun

4:24pm Building a club telescope is discussed

4:27pm Joe plugs a student government senate meeting this Thursday, featuring possible impeachments
